Top Tips for Make-up We all relish seeing the rich and famous caught out in magazines with a less than dazzling ‘natural look’. It just goes to show that the Hollywood faces are largely due to fantastic make-up tricks. The good news is a lot of the make-up artists’ tricks are done with clever use of everyday cosmetics we all have in the bag, here are a few tips; Eyes Lip Gloss has become completely multi-purpose these days. It is great for lips, cheekbones (see below) and eyes, if you put a little on the back of your hand and dab it to ‘thin out’ the boldness of the colour you can use it to great effect by applying it to your brow bone, just under your eyebrow, this gives the effect of larger eyes.
Another multi-use favourite is good old concealer, a trusted friend to all of us for spots and dark circles but you can also put it to good use on your upper lids as it makes a great even base for your eye shadow. You can dab it on the outer corners of your eyebrow bones as a good highlighter and if you have fairly close set eyes try applying a little concealer close to the side of your nose, this will give close set eyes the appearance of being further apart and is a great trick for giving your eyes sparkle. We all know the advantage of waterproof mascara, invaluable for any potential sobbing moment, or even windy days out, but you can also put your waterproof mascara to good use as an eyeliner, use a fine brush to apply it above the top lashes for a great liquid eyeliner look without streaks or panda eyes. Skin and Cheeks A good effect for bringing out your cheekbones can be with lipgloss, yes lipgloss. Use the same gloss for your lips and cheekbones, for the cheeks dab the lipgloss first onto the back of your hand and pat it with your finger until the colour is less bold then gently dab your finger along the length of your cheekbone. You will get a great shine without too much colour.
If you worried about your make-up staying put through tears and sweat try Max Factor Lasting Performance, it’s not strictly waterproof but has great stickability. If you use an all in one base make up and you want a better coverage for a night out try dampening the sponge slightly, this will give a slightly heavier liquid foundation look when you need it. If you find it difficult to apply your base make up evenly due to combination skin, try Vitamin C Skin Boost from The Body Shop. Apply it to your face before your make up it gives you fantastic smooth skin to put the rest of your make up on making it easy to get a light even coverage. Lips A good tip for helping your lips appear plumper is with good old concealer. Apply a very thin outline around the outside edge of your lips, the light shade and luminescence of the concealer will give the desired effect. Try the links below for some great online offers for
inexpensive skin-care products. Feet The end of winter is in sight. Time to start thinking about the wind in your toes and those strappy sandals that make your feet look fab. Now is a good time to give your feet a bit of a makeover to be sure they look their best in sandals and flip-flops. You could indulge in a pedicure, but if your budget doesn’t go that far try these home tips to summer ready feet. Most of us neglect the skin on our feet so spend some time on your tootsies, a good soak and some foot scrub will do wonders, both Avon and The Body Shop have some great foot products, so you can scrub, moisturise and cool without spending too much. Next get tough on old skin, try a foot file or a dry skin remover for a soft fresh feel. Then make sure you keep your lovely new feet this lovely by including them in your moisturising routine. This will keep the skin hydrated and keep your feet feeling fresh while preventing the hard skin returning. Don’t forget during those long hot summer days and nights (we hope) you can keep your feet fresh all day with a cooling spray or foot wipe.
Whatever your age, everybody’s skin is different, we all have our various skincare routines but it is never too early to think about anti-aging products. If you are in your twenties anti-aging products probably rarely cross your mind. You’ve got past the teenage spots and your skin is reasonable stable. You probably don’t have any visible facial lines but can start now to protect your skin. Take a look in the mirror and make some general facial expressions, talk, laugh and frown, notice where your expression lines are likely to form and take care of these areas now. Also, make sure your daily moisturiser includes a sunscreen factor especially through the summer months. During your thirties you may not see any signs of aging, but your complexion will be starting to suffer from its environment, for example UV rays and pollution. Skin creams with sun protection are essential for any age, check your daily moisturiser to make sure it includes SPF, and make sure you do use it daily. Also invest in a good night cream that will nourish your skin are rebuild collagen and elastin as it is the collagen in your skin that gives it volume. As you go through your thirties it becomes gradually less likely that your skin will return to its original shape after day to day facial expressions. The best defence is to make sure you hydrate and nourish your skin sufficiently. If you are in your forties your expression lines will
be well established, but also dead skin cells remain on the skin for
longer so invest in a light exfoliator. Also, chose a good moisturiser,
formulated for your age and skin type as this can work wonders on
plumping up fine lines and making your skin more radiant. Generally
a re-hydrating moisturiser will be light on your skin making it easy
and comfortable to use regularly. You can get some good although sometimes
pricey products aimed at rejuvenating the skin, re-energising the
cells and targeting the wrinkles.
